Well, the first ever Great Canadian Genealogy Summit is under our belt. And what a weekend it was! We had guests from Seattle, Ohio, Florida, Orem Utah, Oregon, Virginia, Philly, New York State, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and of course, Ontario.
Friday morning was busy getting those registered for the day at the Archives of Ontario registered and off on the bus for a day of learning and research.
People were thrilled with their findings, the learning about their Loyalist ancestors, and stated a need to return for more research!
Our Opening Plenary speaker was Jennifer DeBruin. Jennifer got us off to a great start with her inspirational and moving talk about her ancestors and how she came to know them through sharing their stories. People were pumped and ready for the weekend to begin.
Saturday started with a quick breakfast and then we were ready learn. In addition to a choice of 10 talks, we had a full exhibit hall, a yummy lunch and made lots of new connections.
Some headed over to Jake’s Boathouse for dinner and conversation while others went to relax and research.
Sunday was a quieter day. We got started on the right foot by Louise St Denis who helped to remind us how important good methodology is when researching our ancestors. And our Closing Plenary, Lynn Palermo, inspired us to write down the stories of our ancestors, one ancestor at a time.
Thank you to every one who came out. We have had fantastic feedback. And we look forward to seeing many of you again in Halifax in October 2017!
